Zwapp – Need More Apps?

I was forwarded a Facebook post last night about someone’s “billion-dollar” idea for the iPhone. They wanted Apple to give them app recommendations based on apps they have/liked. Well I hate to tell them but several people beat them to the punch. I will cover some others soon but one very interesting new entry into this field is an app called Zwapp.

One of the most popular conversation topics between two iPhone owners starts with “What apps do you have?” I cannot tell you how many times I have done this. Well, Zwapp takes that conversation onto your iPhone.

Once you download Zwapp from MillMobile you create a free account and Zwapp will scan your iPhone for what apps you have. You can give apps a thumbs up or leave a review.

Now comes the fun part, Zwapp is a social network app. You can connect to friends that have the app through your Twitter or Facebook account, your iPhone address book or just search for users to follow.

You are now ready to discover new apps. You can see what your friends are downloading and like as well as browse popular apps on Zwapp. There is also a very interesting “Popular apps your friends don’t have yet” list so you can be the one telling your friends what apps to get.

What is the iCloud?

Apple unveiled their new iCloud service today. It is basically a service that will store a lot of your data “on the internet.” They have set up some huge data centers that will make your files easily accessible from your computer, iPhone, iPad or Touch. Here is the run down:

  • Available for free this fall with iOS5.
  • Better access for your email.
  • Better calendar synching between devices.
  • Contact Synching.
  • It will store all your apps for easy access.
  • It will backup your stuff/sync your iPhone without computer.
  • iBooks will be stored and you can access on your different devices.
  • Your Apple documents will be synched and backed up
  • You will have an online Photo Stream to view photos on your different devices.
  • You will have access to all your iTunes purchases.
  • There is something called iTunes Match for $24.99 per year that will give you access to all of your music via iCloud.
  • You will get 5 gigs of storage for free and will be able to purchase more.

So those are the basics of iCloud, I think it will really change how we use our data and devices. You can get a lot more info on Apple’s iCloud Page.

This might seem familiar because Apple has had something called MobileMe. iCloud takes this idea and makes it (close to) free (instead of $99) and improves it beyond belief. There are also other similar services that have come out recently from both Amazon and Google but if you have an iPhone, iCloud is the way to go.

What is up with iOS5 from Apple?

Well I just spent the last two hours in front of my computer watching and reading feeds on the Keynote event from WWDC. Now I can give you a simple break down about what you need to know about iOS5 the new operating system for iPhone, iPad and Touch:

Note: iOS5 is the system that runs on your phone, like Windows XP. This is not a new phone but expect one to be announced in the next few months.
  • It will be out this fall. (I am thinking Sept. which would match up when people think a new iPhone will be released.)
  • There are all new notifications making it easier keep track of weather, texts, calls, etc.
  • Twitter integration, if you don’t have Twitter get it, it is going to be a big part of iOS5.
  • A new Reminders app that will make it easier to remember to do things.
  • The Camera app will be faster, you can edit pictures and use the volume up button to take pictures.
  • Mail will be much better.
  • You will be able to wirelessly sync to your computer.
  • iMessage like instant messaging for iOS5 users, looks really good.
  • They are also adding a ton of stuff to help developers make better apps!

This is the basics of what we will get this fall. All of these new features look really smooth and will keep the iPhone ahead of the competition. You can read a lot more on Apple’s new iOS5 page. I will keep you updated over the next few months.

Why layPhone now?

I have been stewing on this idea and sitting on this domain for a few months but decided to throw it up now for one reason. Tomorrow, June 6th kicks off Apple’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) where all the people that make apps and stuff for Apple nerd out. It will all start off with a keynote presentation at 10am(PST) on what Apple has up it’s sleeve. In something Apple doesn’t usually do, they let us know what they will be covering tomorrow:

  • The new OSX Lion operating system (Mac Computers)
  • The new iOS5 operating system (iPhone, iPad, Touch)
  • Apple’s new mysterious iCloud (Everything)

I personally will be following the coverage on Engadget to watch minute by minute will be happening. The new iOS5 will, I am sure, bring a ton of new features to your iPhone that will need explaining. iCloud will also bring a whole new world to the iPhone, letting you sync stuff with the “cloud.”

I will work on some posts tomorrow letting you know what you need to know and then moving forward with getting this site going.
